African Bee Eaters; with their brightly colored plumage and flighty nature hardly made the right companions for a bird larger in stature and more dignified in its appearance. However, that fact didn't seem to matter for this Lourie in particular, who perched herself among the much smaller birds without fear of ridicule and without much of a care at all.

She enjoyed these smaller birds, their company was always guaranteed to bring amusement.

They chirped almost non-stop, ruffling their feathers and darting their dark eyes back and forth. Most of them were gossips, which was probably another reason Avis stayed near them. The older females liked to talk about the males in great detail while the older males did the same about the females. Younger females chatted about finding the perfect mate while the younger males talked about what sort of fights for territory they had partaken in. All the hatchlings talked about the day when they would fly and the adolescents rambled on about how juvenile the young ones were.

Avis clucked as she listened to them. Today was apparently a slow day in their world. Normally, she would hear them talking about the latest strangers in the Pridelands, either that, or they talked about the Outlanders. That always caught the Lourie's attention; the Outlanders intrigued her.

Not so much that they were banished, but they were always so brash and rough and she wondered why.

Tiring of listening to their incessant warbling, the larger bird ruffled her feathers and stretched out her wings. The vividly colored birds around her jumped and scattered. Avis rolled her eyes and hopped from the thick branch, gliding her way down to the sparkling water at the river's edge.

Glancing around quickly, the Lourie hopped her way into the water, feeling it splash against the small feathers surrounding her legs. Ducking low, the bird fluffed herself out and twisted around in the clear liquid, successfully bringing up the droplets to cling to her brilliant green feathers.

Standing up straight again, Avis gently brought her beak through the now moist feathers, fixing any imperfections and clearing any dirt from the fine strands.

They had not been there long and were on yet another scouting mission for their Pack in the Mountains not too far away. Their silver forms faded from dark to light as the sunlight hit their coats and their orbs searched the earth below and before them. Nostrils lifted to take in the scents of the area and their tails sweeping their tracks behind and brushing their hind thighs gently.

Their light footing carried them toward a small lake around which the sound of twittering and odd bird-song not heard by their Wolven auds before. It was such a free and relaxing sound that their maws were lifted into soft smiles.

The twin Wolves, Sasha and Sathra, stopped by the edge of the cool water and lowered their jaws and archs for a drink of the liquid. Chasms enclosed within their lids for a brief time, they returned to the coloured world to see a small bird bathing near by.

"Oh, hello..." Sasha smiled, "Were we disturbing you?" Sathra continued, also lifting his skull and turning it toward the Avion with a smile and welcoming pools of marble silver and white.

It was not often they spoke to other creatures... but since they were outside their Pack Territory they were more free to do as they wish. Their auds twitched toward the small Avion giving Sathra's chipped aud a small outline.

Fluffing yet again, Avis cooed to herself and shook any loose water droplets from her pinions. With that completed, she merely strutted in the water gently, letting it soothe the overheated portions of her body (mainly her stomach), chirping in pleasure as the cool liquid splashed against her belly.

Avis jumped slightly, sending water around her form as the two, much larger animals approached. Now, she wasn't afraid; Avis was never afraid, but she was cautious. These animals came from the mountainous regions and were, very obviously, predators.

By the looks and sounds of it, they were also either mates or twins. More likely, they were twins, as their features were too similar for them to be mates. Dark eyes blinked and shifted from one to the other as they spoke.

Still on guard, but quickly finding that neither of the animals gave off that essence of hunting, the Lourie chirped gently and friendly, "No no, you aren't disturbing me at all. The water is nice here, yes?"

The twins looked down at the little bird. It was very brightly coloured and almost mesmorising for a pair of Wolves that lived in a Pack full of grey Brutes and Faes. Their silver eyes washed over the Avion every now and then, still amazed at it's rainbow plumage and how elegantly it hopped from place to place.

"No no, you aren't disturbing me at all. The water is nice here, yes?"

"We must admit it's," "colder than the fresh Spring water," "we get up in the Pack Territory." their chorus rang female, male and then harmoniously as long sentences usually did with them. Sniffing the air with an identical flare of the nares, maw slightly ajar, the twins sighed gently at the freedom they possessed while being respected Hunters and Scouts.

"Who might you be then?" their skulls turned toward the Avion, their marble chasms full of curiosity and wonder as they had only traveled around the territories for a short while.

Avis watched both of them moving at the same time and angle and, not to mention, listened to them talk in tandem. She heard that twins often did that, but there weren't many twins in the avion world, it just didn't work that way.

The bird titled her head, "What makes you travel so far from your territory?"

Her curiosity always got the best of her. It wasn't as if she was nosy...ok well, she was a little nosy, but mostly just very curious about the huge world around her. That was just instinct though, much like the instinct that told you to stay away from predators and birds larger than yourself. However, she didn't heed those, and instead hopped from place to place, wandering very near to the two wolves.

"Oh, I'm sorry. My name is Avis," she responded with a ruffle of feathers and a cute chirp.

"What makes you travel so far from your territory?"

The twins grinned together and sang, "We're scouts and hunters,", "and the best of our Pack." and their tails began to sweep at the lofty, dry dust upon the ground and make it float about their hind quarters and cling to their already dusty gray fur.

Sasha and Sathra had seen many different Avians through the years, but none as inquisitive as Avis. She seemed very confident and acted upon her curiosity and not her instinct.

"Oh, I'm sorry. My name is Avis,"

"No need to say sorry." they chorused and smiled, lowering their heads and dropping their stomachs to the ground. Their coats flattened to the earth and flare to brush aside dust and loose rocks and pebbles.

"I'm Sasha." Sasha yapped politely, lifting her head and looking down at Avis sweetly with a smile and ears up so high they could have grown taller still. "I'm Sathra." her twin brother stated after a brief moment, moving to lay exactly as Sasha was, but his thorns were taller and one with a chip. Of course, Sathra's voice was also deeper and slightly grougher, but full of pleasure.

"Oh, so then you have the honor and adventure of going out into unchartered land," Avis chirped quietly.

She, herself, was quite the explorer. She had no pack, or flock, to be a part of, so the bird chose to go out on her own. Many dangers she had faced in her journey thus far, but she always managed to make a clean getaway. Some called it luck, Avis called it skill.

Dark eyes watched as each wolf took a turn laying against the ground. Their grey coats almost seemed to blend with each other, that is, until one moved and the other didn't. She had taken to notice that, while both were personable, Sasha was a little more so, perhaps more eager to talk than her brother.

Avis had met many predators in her lifetime, but none as nice as these two. The bird clucked in a laughing fashion and moved away from the water to curl herself against the bank, facing both wolves.

"I'm quite surprised neither of you tried to eat me, to tell you the truth. I don't normally meet predators that don't want to hunt."

"Oh, so then you have the honor and adventure of going out into unchartered land,"

To this they simply nodded and smiled with their greyscale marble eyes closed behind thier lids while they did. Their tails also began to waft across the ground, scattering more dust... like what the Humans called wind-screen wipers on something called a car. Seeing as the twins lived fairly close to a Human Research Centre... they often had visits and rescue missions.

"I'm quite surprised neither of you tried to eat me, to tell you the truth. I don't normally meet predators that don't want to hunt."

"We already ate,", Sathra went first because, for a very rare moment, Sasha had looked slightly discusted at the thought of eating Ais when not on a hunt, "and we only hunt in our Pack Hunting Grounds." she finished with a slight note of distaste. Both were exact, but Sathra had a slightly stronger stomach and Sasha was very concious of the size of her stomach... neither of them had ever eaten a bird anyway, too small. "We hunt for antilope and deer instead... they're bigger." they both nodded once and snorted gently to emphasis this fact.

Avis chirped in amusement and let her dark eyes rove along the rest of the land. With these two here, it would probably deter any other predators that may want to get a piece of her. Hawks mostly, they were notorious for hunting bright, shiny birds. She was every bit of the former described.

Glancing back at them the bird blinked a few times. For the first time the male spoke first and that was mildly intriguing. From their meeting, Avis had already figured that Sasha was the more talkative of the two, though both did their fair share. Rather, she should say Sasha was just a bit more dominant than her brother.

The bird clucked out a chuckle, "Well, I've had predators hunt me just because they like the chase. But, as you can tell from my still being alive, they were easily deterred."

"Well, I've had predators hunt me just because they like the chase. But, as you can tell from my still being alive, they were easily deterred."

"If not given reason..." Sathra tilted his head to the right and used an intelligent tone like Sasha was about to, "Predators will fail hunting." though her head was tilted to the right. Their actions usually took turns; unison, opposite like a mirror and back to unison again.

"You must be fast." they stated in semi-questioning as their skulls returned to the upright position above their blades and coats. Their tails had folded over each other and their thorns had tensed to face the tiny Avian about the size of one of Sathra's ears.

Glancing up at the sky together, the twins wandered what other sorts of Avians were around... they had seen very few under the canopy of dense trees within their territory.

Avis thought these two wolves were quite the spectacle. She, in her travels, had not encountered twins before and they were amusing, to say the least. The bird marveled at the way they could predict what the other was going to say and she found it fascinating how they moved in unison. Sometimes they seemed to break up; one would tilt to the right, the other to the left. But in the end, they always came right back together. The Lorie rather liked them.

Blinking a few times, Avis shivered her feathers, fluffing and then going flat once more. That was a nervous gesture of hers. The bird was modest, very much so, and was known to become shy and embarrassed when given a compliment. However, such things came rarely, as she was an oddity in the community. I mean, really, what bird talked to hunters? It was just unnatural. But Avis always prided herself in being different.

Clucking cutely, she replied, "Oh, I'm not that fast...I just know how to move. Hawks get confused if you dart about and make sharp turns. Its harder to outmaneuver larger predators, even if I can take to the sky."

The twins deciphered that the little flyer did not receive many, or feel too comfortable with, compliments by the ruffling of her feathers. They had never spoken to what would have been the pray to their young ones before, but this Avian seemed interesting and genuinely kind. They smiled together at her gesture of nervous-emotions and rested their skulls atop their crossed paws as they were now rested totally and calmly on their fronts with their hind legs tucked into their toned stomachs while their front paws... well, they were crossed neatly together in front now with their soft chins set upon them in a relaxed fashion.

"Oh, I'm not that fast...I just know how to move. Hawks get confused if you dart about and make sharp turns. Its harder to out manoeuvre larger predators, even if I can take to the sky."

"We find it fun," they sang, grinning and lifting their jaws from their paws (tee hee... no, I wont be sad their the 'poet' rhyme :P) and their auds perked again, tails linking behind them and laying still once more. "We are the fastest in our Pack," "and we are able to catch many things if we try..." "But we never eat birds... they're too small and the feathers get stuck." they both laughed, their fur rippling casting odd shadows about itself and the ground. To add even more humour, the twins both pretended to be attempting to remove a tough bit of food from their fangs with their raspy tongues.

"How large are these lands?" they asked after a moments silence. Their pools had wandered a little over the grasslands, the huge mountains, forestry, lakes and dusty ground. They seemed an odd mix as their territory had snow and yet this world was oh so hot and dry.
